Fourth seed Andre Agassi fought his way back from two sets down to beat French wildcard Paul-Henri Mathieu 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 and reach the French Open quarter-finals in Paris today.
Agassi, the 1999 champion at Roland Garros, was two sets and 2-0 down when rain halted play for twenty minutes. But he returned after the break a changed player and earned a hardfought victory.
Mathieu maintained a little suspense by breaking Agassi again in the fifth set to lead 3-1, but the American recovered to win in three hours and one minute.
Agassi will play Juan-Carlos Ferrero in the last eight. The Spaniard beat Gaston Gaudio 6-7 6-1 6-7 6-2 6-4.
