A plan by An Post to fill new managerial posts in spite of union objections has had to be put on hold, as a result of a Labour Court recommendation.
The company has been embroiled in a row with its senior managers over a planned shake-up of management structures. It told their union, the Association of Higher Civil and Public Servants (AHCPS), it was not prepared to negotiate on changes to company structures.
The company wants to streamline existing management grades and reduce numbers in high-level positions by 30 per cent. The AHCPS said it had no objection in principle to the proposals, as long as they were negotiated and agreed with the union.
In a recommendation which the union circulated to members yesterday, the Labour Court said the recruitment process to fill the new posts should be put on hold. It said negotiations on a new collective agreement, and the method of selection for the new posts, should be completed by the end of the month.
