The Minister for Foreign Affairs yesterday met the US Ambassador to Keyna, Ms Prudence Bushnell, during a short visit to Nairobi on his way to southern Sudan.
Mr Andrews conveyed the Government's sympathy on the recent bombing at the US embassy. He also met representatives of the three Irish agencies operating in Sudan - Concern, Goal and Trocaire - and received an extensive briefing on their relief efforts.
He underlined Ireland's strong support for the newly-appointed UN Special Envoy for Sudan whom he plans to meet today. He is to spend this morning at Ajiep in western Sudan where the famine is at its worst.
