The fallout from Monday's decision by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland that two local radio stations, Radio Kilkenny and CKR FM, were to be taken off the air from October 2003 continued yesterday.
New stations are to be established that will serve Carlow-Kilkenny and Kildare respectively.
The Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow-Kilkenny, Mr John McGuinness, expressed his outrage that the BCI had made the decision to effectively close a successful community radio station like Radio Kilkenny.
"The legislation seeks to protect community radio and where possible to be biased towards existing community radio stations, yet the BCI appear to have gone against this." Mr McGuinness said.
