The premises of the Anglo-Celt newspaper at Church Street, Cavan, were badly damaged in a fire on Wednesday night.

Computer and laser equipment worth hundreds of thousands of pounds were destroyed but the paper's editor, Mr Charlie O'Hanlon, said yesterday it would be business as usual. Work was in progress on next week's issue and the company was fulfilling all publishing contracts.

The section of the building containing the printing press escaped serious damage. The fire started shortly after 11 p.m. when a boiler house ignited and flames spread to a fuel tank which ruptured.

Occupants of nearby houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
