Angolan President plans to retire

Luanda - The Angolan President, Mr Jose Eduardo dos Santos, will not stand for re-election, he said here yesterday, adding however that presidential elections could not go ahead as long as rebels continued to fight. "I think I have fulfilled my duty. The party (the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola - MPLA) should prepare for another candidate and this candidate will not be Jose Eduardo dos Santos," the President said at a meeting of his ruling party's central committee.
