Annual manufacturing prices rise by 1.0% in April

Factory gate prices increased by 0.8 per cent in April 2002 to bring the overall manufacturing output price index to 116.9, a rise of 1.0 per cent on last year, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office(CSO) this morning.

The index for export sales increased by 0.8 per cent while the index for home sales also increased by 0.8 per cent on the month.

Contributing to the monthly change were increases in mineral oil refining

Other food products (+0.9 per cent ), pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (+0.8 per cent), printing and service activities related to printing (+2.1 per cent) and dairy products (+0.7 per cent).

Meat and meat products (+6.4 per cent), Basic chemicals (+2.2 per cent) and decreases in pharmaceuticals and other chemical products (including man-made fibres)(-3.3 per cent) and Radio, television and communication equipment (-8.4 per cent) all contributed to the annual change.

Breaking down Wholesale price changes by sector of use shows that:

Building and construction material prices increased by 0.4 per cent in April 2002 and increased by 3.8 per cent in the year since April 2001.

Prices of Capital goods increased by 0.5 per cent in April 2002 and increased by 6.2 per cent in the year since April 2001.

The price of Energy products increased by 1.4 per cent in April 2002 and increased by 8.8 per cent in the year since April 2001. Petroleum fuels increased by 4.0 per cent in April 2002 and year on year this index increased by 0.9 per cent.
