ANOTHER expectant British mother has said she wants to abort one twin because she cannot afford to bring up a larger family.
The report, in yesterday's London Evening Standard, follows a storm of controversy last week over a report that a woman wanted to abort one of her expected twins because she could not afford them.
The Standard said the husband was fully employed but his wife worked only part-time and would have to give up her work to devote herself to her family.
"With twins, I would not be able to work at all and so we would have to sell our car to pay the home loan off," the unnamed woman, from Banbury in Oxfords hire, was quoted as saying.
The report said the couple had only four weeks more to make a decision because the woman was already 20 weeks pregnant and termination is permitted in Britain up to only 24 weeks.
A spokeswoman for the British Medical Association said the country's law permitting abortions would not allow for abortions on the grounds of financial hardship alone.
