ANTI DRUG campaigners staged protests outside two Dublin Garda stations yesterday over the arrest of two of their members, writes John Maher.

The two men were arrested at their homes in the north inner city early yesterday morning and were held at Clontarf and Fitzgibbon Street Garda stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows detention without charge for 48 hours.

Both are being questioned about an incident at a flats complex in the city in which furniture was thrown from a woman's home.

The men were visited by Cllr Christy Burke, of Sinn Fein, and the Independent TD Mr Tony Gregory. They said afterwards that they told gardai that the force never reacted to their complaints about drug dealers. It only seemed interested in "trying to break the anti drugs movement," said Mr Burke.
