Apple said today that 100 million iPods have been sold worldwide, making them the fastest selling music players in history.

Apple has brought out more than 10 new models of its MP3 player since the first one was sold in November 2001.

Chief executive Steve Jobs, said: "iPod has helped millions of people around the world rekindle their passion for music, and we're thrilled to be a part of that."

The music player has spawned some 4,000 related accessories made by a host of different firms.
