The PPP scheme involves private contractors designing, building and maintaining the schools on behalf of the Department for a period of years.

The Department has begun a tendering process for the six projects. They are: a new school of music under the aegis of Cork Institute of Technology; a community college in Dunmanway, Co Cork; a community school in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo; a community school in Ballincollig, Co Cork; a community school at Shannon; and a community college at Clones, Co Monaghan.
