Arab foreign ministers meeting in Cairo today recommended that political contacts with the Israeli government should be severed until Israel stopped its military assaults against the Palestinians.

"We recommend calling off all Arab political contacts with the Israeli government as long as the aggression and blockade against the Palestinian people and their national authority continues," read a statement issued by the ministers.

Yesterday Israel unleashed F-16 fighter-bombers for the first time in an eight-month-long Palestinian uprising against military occupation, killing at least 12 people and wounding at least 90.

Israeli attack helicopters launched fresh assaults against Palestinian Authority targets in the West Bank today.
