"His condition is not improving," said the official, who declined to be named.

He said Palestinian officials were considering moving Mr Arafat from Paris to Cairo for treatment but any decision on this would have to be taken by the Palestinian leadership.

Meanwhile, Yasser Arafat's deputy, Mahmoud Abbas, and Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie plan to travel to Paris tomorrow to visit the hospitalised president, Palestinian officials said today.

Mr Abbas and Mr Qurie, overseeing Palestinian affairs in the West Bank and Gaza since Mr Arafat was flown to a hospital near Paris on October 29, decided to go to France so they could be "personally reassured" about his condition, one of the officials said.
