A man was in custody in Limerick last night in connection with the gangland murder of a man whose body was found in a shallow grave. The body of James Cronin (20) was found by gardaí on April 7th, 2008, while they were carrying out searches following the murder of Mark Moloney (40) who was shot dead 48 hours earlier.

Mr Cronin’s body was discovered half buried in a field at Caledonian Park. A subsequent postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy concluded that he died from a single shotgun wound to his head.

Although a number of arrests have been made, no one has been charged with the killing, which gardaí believe was related to gang feuds in Limerick.

Gardaí yesterday arrested a 24-year-old man on the south side of Limerick city.
