Bayern Munich and Arsenal tonight completed the quarter-final lineup in this season's Champions League.

Bayern's 1-0 win over Arsenal in Munich, coupled with the 1-1 draw between Spartak Moscow and Olympique Lyon in Moscow, meant Arsenal squeezed into the last eight because they took four points off Lyon during the group stage.

Bayern won Group C with 13 points, followed by Arsenal and Lyon on 8 with Spartak Moscow bringing up the rear.

With Manchester United and Leeds United already qualified, England now have three teams in the quarter-finals for the first time.

Arsenal have reached the last eight for the first time since reaching the quarter-finals of the European Cup in 1972.

Bayern, who have not failed to make it through to the quarter-finals since 1997, won thanks to Giovane Elber's diving header after 10 minutes.

Lyon had fought back from conceding an early goal, a penalty from Dmitri Parfenov that gave the Russians their first goal in the last five Champions League matches, to level in the 68th minute through Brazilian Sonny Anderson, also from the penalty spot.
