At least five small blasts have been report on roads in the Spanish capital Madrid today.

The reports come after armed Basque separatist group Eta issued bomb warnings, including one that a device had been planted in Santander Airport. Today's blasts coincide with Spain's Constitution Day public holiday.

Basque separatists want an independent state carved out of northern Spain and southwest France, impossible under the constitution.

Basque newspaper El Correo reported today that Eta said in its latest internal bulletin that it would not call a ceasefire until Spain and France made concessions.

There has been speculation for months that a ceasefire could be announced, although Eta has continued placing non-fatal bombs.
