One passenger has been killed and more are feared dead in an Amtrak train crash in Iowa.
Forty seven people are injured after at least four carriages derailed in a remote area, 70 miles from Des Moines. A lack of road access hampered the rescue effort.
Some of the victims were transported to hospitals by helicopter. The train was carrying 195 passengers and 15 crew members, and over 90 people are injured.
The train was headed westbound from Chicago to Emeryville, California, when the derailment occurred in Adams County.
Mr Bryan Kannas, of the Adams County Sheriff's department, said the derailment involved eight or nine carriages and occurred between the communities of Brooks and Nodaway.
Mr Kannas said state troopers were at the scene, as well as sheriff's personnel from four counties and police and firefighters from a number of surrounding communities.
