Efforts to recover the body of a Finnish youth who drowned on Thursday when he was swept by a large wave off rocks on Achill Island, Co Mayo, proved fruitless yesterday, due to treacherous seas.
The 23-year-old victim had not been named by last evening. A student at Waterford Institute of Technology, he was taking a photograph at Atlantic Drive when he was swept away.
His girlfriend and another Finnish student ran to a nearby house to raise the alarm.
