Manchester - A baby girl died from apparent sunstroke after she was left in a car on one of the hottest days of the year, police said.

Three-month-old Courtney Joy Trueman, from Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, was found with breathing difficulties after ambulance crews were called to her family house on Saturday. She was taken to Tameside Hospital in a collapsed state but later died. Police are investigating reports that the baby was left in the car for two hours on a day when temperatures in Manchester soared to 23C.

Her parents, Andrew and Maria, who have three other children, were not at their home on Sandringham Drive yesterday.
