A Nigerian mother of five children, who has been detained for five weeks, was granted bail by the High Court yesterday pending her legal challenge to the validity of a deportation order against her.

Ms Justice Finlay-Geoghegan granted bail to Ms Angele Nwole on an independent surety of €1,000. She is to live at an address in Celbridge, Co Kildare, and sign on at the local Garda station three times weekly. The judge gave permission for Ms Nwole to change to another address in Enfield, Co Meath, on condition that she notified the gardaí.

Det Sergeant Colm Hilliard said he had arrested Ms Nwole outside an address in Celbridge on October 5th. The registered address which the gardaí had for her was in Enfield. Having made inquiries at the Enfield address on two occasions, he had been unable to establish where she was living.

It was believed the reason for her changing address was to evade a deportation order.
