The High Court has revoked bail granted to a man charged in connection with a €2.3 million security van robbery and has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Jason Kavanagh (32), Parslickstown Court, Mulhuddart, Dublin, was charged last September with the false imprisonment of a Securicor van driver, his wife and two sons, and with the robbery of €2.3 million on March 13th, 2006.
Last year, Mr Kavanagh was arrested in Alicante on foot of a European extradition warrant and was extradited to face charges in connection with the robbery.
He was remanded in custody but was subsequently granted bail on foot of an €80,000 surety put up by his father-in-law, Stephen Rice, and on certain conditions, including that he sign on regularly with the Garda.
Yesterday, Mr Justice Paul Butler was told that Mr Rice wished to withdraw the surety on grounds that gardaí believed Mr Kavanagh would no longer comply with the terms of his bail.
In evidence, Det Sgt Paul Scott of Raheny Garda station said he believed Mr Kavanagh was making preparations to leave the State.
Det Sgt Scott said he had met Mr Rice, who had expressed concerns about the safety of his daughter, Amanda, Mr Kavanagh's wife. Mr Rice told the court that he and members of his family have been threatened by Mr Kavanagh.
Counsel for the DPP said the director was not seeking to retain the money put forward by Mr Rice.
Mr Justice Butler agreed to rescind the surety and issued a bench warrant for Mr Kavanagh's arrest.
