A 42-year-old man who faces 14 charges of sexually assaulting his daughter over six years was further remanded in custody yesterday. Judge James O'Sullivan refused to grant bail for the second time when told by a Garda witness that the victim had been approached by a relative and asked to withdraw her statement of complaint. Remanding the man in custody to Athlone court on June 9th, the judge said it would be irresponsible to release the accused on bail.
At the same court in Ballyforan, Co Roscommon, yesterday, a 65-year-old man was remanded on bail to June 9th on a charge of raping a girl and sexually assaulting her three times.
