The moving statue of Ballinspittle, Co Cork, is back in action again after a decade of inactivity

The moving statue of Ballinspittle, Co Cork, is back in action again after a decade of inactivity. The famous life-size statue of Our Lady is reported to be swaying and tilting, and visitors are again beginning to return to the grotto in large numbers.

The first reported sighting of movement by the statue came from a local woman, Ms Catherine Mahony, in 1986. As word spread, thousands of people from all over Ireland arrived in the small West Cork village in cars and coaches. They stayed for hours on the hillside overlooking the large grotto in the hope of seeing the statue move, and many claimed they saw movement.
