Baltray will play host to next summer's Nissan Irish Open, it was announced this evening. The Co Louth links, considered one of Ireland's finest seaside courses, is set to stage the event in late July.
The Tom Simpson designed course is among the most challenging in the country and is sure to provide a stern test for the likes of defending champion Michael Campbell when the European Tour's finest contest a prize fund expected to be in the region of €2 million.
Organisers will also be hoping to tempt a number of luminaries from the US Tour to extend their stay on this side of the Atlantic with the tournament being staged the week after the British Open.
The Irish Open has a long association with links golf with Portmarnock, Ballybunion, Royal Co Dublin and Woodbrook all opening their doors to the tournament in years gone by.
