Copenhagen - The nine deaths at a rock festival in Denmark in June could have been avoided and "cannot be written off as bad luck", said the US rock band Pearl Jam in a statement yesterday. The nine who died were crushed and trampled during a performance by the band.

The Pearl Jam statement in Copenhagen followed a decision by police to order a new investigation into the tragedy.
