A gunman got more than he bargained for when he tried to rob a west Belfast bar, it was revealed today.

The man barged into the Glenowen Inn on the Glen Road in Andersonstown on Saturday night brandishing a hand gun and demanded the contents of the till. Customers and staff pounced on him, took away the gun and threw him out of the premises.

Police who arrived at the scene arrested a man who was later being questioned by detectives.

A member of staff said: "It didn't quite go as he expected. Police picked up a guy down the street, and the gun has been handed over to them."
