Barman shot in stomach in Cork robbery

A barman was shot in the stomach during a pub robbery in Cork city early this morning.

At 3.20 three men in balaclavas went into the pub on Douglas Street. One had a handgun and the others shotguns, a Garda spokesman said.

They confronted staff and shot the barman. He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.

A spokeswoman for the hospital told ireland.comhe was in a stable condition.

The scene of the shooting has been preserved for technical examination.
