The mother of a 19-year-old man accused of beating a teacher to death has told a court how she was forced to take out a barring order against her son because he was so disruptive.

Mrs Breda Tuohy was giving evidence yesterday as a defence witness in the trial of her son, Johnathan, at the Central Criminal Court in Limerick.

Mr Tuohy of Edward Street, Limerick, denies the murder of 42-year-old Noel Carmody at Arthur's Quay Park, in Limerick city on September 27th, 2003.

A co-accused - Mr Darren Wallace (21) of Assumpta Park, Lee Estate, Limerick, also denies the charge of murder.

Both accused men are further charged with robbing Mr Carmody in Arthur's Quay Park, Limerick, on the same date.

Mrs Tuohy told the jury in Limerick yesterday that her son suffered from hyperactivity disorder - ADHD - and he had to take medication for the condition.

The witness said she was forced to contact gardaí about her son's problems and eventually she took out a barring order because his behaviour was so disruptive.

The trial continues.
