Nine junior barristers appearing at the Bloody Sunday inquiry began a legal action yesterday over a proposal to cut their fees.
In the High Court in Belfast they applied for a judicial review of Lord Saville's decision to pay them half the fees of senior counsel instead of the traditional two-thirds.
Lord Saville has recommended that the Northern Ireland Office, which is footing the bill, should pay senior counsel £1,500 a day and £200 an hour for preparatory work. This would mean juniors getting a daily fee of £750 instead of £1,000 and £100 an hour instead of £133.
The hearing is due to finish today, and Lord Justice Campbell is expected to reserve his decision.
