All planned surgery has been cancelled at Dublin's Beaumont hospital today.

All planned surgery has been cancelled at Dublin's Beaumont hospital today.

The move was made to alleviate a backlog of patients in the Accident and Emergency department. The cancellation comes after an unusually high number of patients at the hospital at the weekend.

At one stage, over 40 people were forced to wait on trolleys and chairs.

The backlog is now understood to have been largely cleared.
