Beef farmer dies in fume-filled car

TRURO - A beef farmer, Mr Robert Cowburn (40), killed himself because of the BSE crisis, his family said yesterday.

TRURO - A beef farmer, Mr Robert Cowburn (40), killed himself because of the BSE crisis, his family said yesterday.

The smallholder died in his fume filled car two days after a failed trip to the local market where beef prices have slumped.

An inquest into Mr Cowburn's death has been opened and adjourned.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances. A length of hosepipe was found attached to the car's exhaust.
