When RTE local radio ended its 25-year run in Cork yesterday evening, there were no farewells, Dick Hogan reports. Instead, the final tune was faded out and the Angelus tolled.
The service was launched to enable Cork listeners to interact with a local station. But it was seriously challenged by the predominantly music-driven Cork 96 FM. RTE's local station continued to lose its audience share and eventually had only a 6 per cent listenership.
