Black man assaulted

Champaign, Illinois - Police in south-western Illinois said yesterday they had identified three white men who may have assaulted a black youth by dragging him from their sportutility vehicle. Mr Baron Manning (17), a construction worker, has alleged that the back-seat passenger in a vehicle containing three whites grabbed him by his sweatshirt on Friday and held on as the driver sped off, dragging him for several blocks until the shirt tore. Mr Manning, who said he had approached the vehicle when the three waved to him, was treated for minor injuries and released.
