Two blind brothers were beaten up and robbed by thugs looking for cash and drugs.

George Sloan, 38, and Stephen, 42, were attacked when two men burst into their home at Glenville Parade, Newtownabbey.

George had his right arm broken and a stick forced into his mouth while his brother suffered bruising to the head and body following the Sunday night attack.

Sister Vera Campbell said: "These men were brothers and vulnerable and I don't know how anybody could come into their home and do this.

"It was frightening. They would have given them the money. They asked to hand over the drugs they kept as well."

The robbers escaped with £34.

George had been listening to a football match while Stephen was booking a  flight to the US.

George was left crying and panicking, frightened for his life and that of his  brother.

The two robbers, aged in their 20s, ransacked the property before escaping with the money.

Former Newtownabbey Mayor Lynn Frazer expressed her anger. "This was a despicable act. I simply cannot comprehend the sick mentality of the thugs who carried out this attack. People should be able to feel safe in their homes, free from fear of attacks like this," she said.

"My thoughts are with the two brothers who must be devastated and deeply traumatised following this brutal act."

Police appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
