The 26-year-old man whose body was recovered yesterday from Lough Sheelin on the Cavan-Meath border has been named as Mr Kenneth Carney, from Dunleer, Co Louth.

Mr Carney's body was brought ashore at Kilnehard pier at 12.25 p.m. yesterday.

He was one of four friends who had hired a boat for the weekend to fish on the lake. They stayed overnight on Saturday on an island on Lough Sheelin and were understood to be heading for the shore early on Sunday when Mr Carney fell overboard.

The Garda water unit, members of sub-aqua groups, local people and Mr Carney's friends and family members searched the lake throughout Sunday and again early yesterday until his body was found.
