French police found the body of British girl Afusat Shagaya (11) early today near the site where she went missing in northern France three days ago.

The schoolgirl, known as Bunmi, went missing on Monday in a lakeside park in CanyBarville in northern France's Seine-Maritime department.

Police found her body at the bottom of the lake shortly after 9:30 am (0730 GMT). An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

French police said yesterday drowning was the most likely cause of her disappearance but did not rule out more sinister explanations.
