World record sprinter Usain Bolt escaped relatively unscathed yesterday when he crashed his BMW sports car in Jamaica. Bolt lost control of the high-powered vehicle and plowed into a ditch, police said.

He injured his left foot as he stepped out of the car and was treated, along with his brother and a female companion, for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

Bolt, who won the men's 100 and 200 metres with record times at the Beijing Olympics, was released after treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital.

"We are keeping a close watch on Usain and will update the public as is necessary," his manager Norman Peart said in a statement..
