Book about Mrs Netanyahu "no album of compliments"

FIRST "Nannygate", now the "exfiles"

FIRST "Nannygate", now the "exfiles". Mrs Sara Netanyahu (37), wife of the Israeli Prime Minister, is back in the tabloids after it emerged that her ex husband plans to publish a book about their six year marriage. It ended in 1987.

"The book is certainly not going to be an album of compliments,"

Mr Bejamin Netanyahu's lawyer, Mr David Shimron, said, acknowledging, he had not seen the manuscript.

Three months ago, Mrs Netanyahu - propelled into the spotlight by the new Prime Minister - felt the glare of some unwanted publicity when her nanny resigned, saying the first lady was a harsh taskmistress with a sharp temper. The nanny left after an argument over burnt soup. This time, the hot issue is secrets state and private.

Israel's Channel 2 television began the latest chapter of what newspapers coined "The Life of Sara" with a report that her exhusband, Mr Doron Neuberger, would "tell all" - because he was upset by a photograph of her looking at a classified state document.

Nonsense, Mr Shimron said. "The photograph shows Mrs Netanyahu sitting next to [the Prime Minister] looking at their itinerary for a trip to Washington. The time they eat lunch and take the kids to the zoo is not exactly a state secret."

Mr Shimron said he met Mr Neuberger's lawyer once to complain that the book would be an invasion of privacy.

"It's a very ugly thing," he said, adding he might advise Mrs Netanyahu to take legal action "if the book contains libel".

Neuberger, a teacher who lives on a kibbutz, is negotiating public rights with Israeli tabloids according to reports. Mrs Netanyahu, though frequently at the Prime Minister's side, has been a silent partner letting her husband do all the talking. She is the third wife of the twice divorced Mr Netanyahu, who in 1993 admitted cheating on her. They have two sons, aged four and one.
