Boston Scientific, which employs 1,600 people in Galway and almost 3,000 overall in Ireland, has completed the recall of devices used to clear clogged heart arteries.

The recall of the popular Taxus drug-coated stents and the older Express 2 bare-metal stents came after the devices were linked with three deaths and several injuries.

The Natick, Massachusetts-based company, in a Webcast with physicians, said it was working hard to restore their confidence, which the company said had been eroded after it widened its recall of the heart devices.

Boston Scientific doubled first-quarter earnings this year, spurred by brisk sales of its new drug-coated stent to treat clogged heart arteries, which is produced at its Galway plant.
