Grand Rapids, Michigan - A six-year-old boy lived for nearly three weeks in an apartment with the decomposing body of his mother before authorities were alerted, police said yesterday. School officials notified state protective services when the boy appeared looking underweight and acting withdrawn.
Police went to the apartment complex where the boy lived and discovered food and clothing scattered around the apartment. His mother was on the floor of the living room covered with a blanket and crib mattress. The boy told police he was in another room when he heard his mother fall. He covered her up, apparently not understanding she was dead. Police have eliminated foul play.
