Some 230 players competed in the three national pairs championship finals run by the Contract Bridge Association of Ireland in the Bettystown Court Hotel, Co Meath.
The major event (Davidson Cup) was won by D Reddan and L Mitchell. The runners-up were C Holland and D O'Gorman. On a split tie, the third prize went to M Katek with G Wolowiec and the fourth to J Doyle with K Lennon. Sessional winners: L Gaynor, D Redmond; B and H Sheridan; R Langford, M Walsh.

The 69th West of Ireland Congress will be played next weekend in the Corrib Heights Hotel, Galway. Friday (7.30pm), mixed pairs. Saturday (2pm), two-session major and intermediate pairs.
Sunday, reception (noon), three-session major teams begins at 2.30pm Monday, 3rd session of major teams and two-session intermediate teams (10.30am), presentation of prizes (5.30 pm). The East of Ireland congress, which had been scheduled for the first weekend of June, in the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, has been postponed until November 23rd-25th.
