Police have arrested seven people after seizing drugs with an estimated street value of over £17 million sterling.

Police and Customs officers carried out the raid early yesterday morning and nearly 250 kilogrammes of class A and B drugs were seized in a lorry heading into Britain from Belgium.

Three men - aged 22, 24 and 43 - were arrested by Customs officers at Dover, and another two men were arrested by police in Bolton, all on suspicion of conspiracy to import class A drugs.

A 23-year-old man was arrested for possessing drugs and a woman was arrested for possession of a firearm, a Customs spokesman said.

All those arrested were from the Little Lever area of Bolton.

The drugs seized - believed to be heroin, amphetamines, cocaine and cannabis with a total street value of £17.5 million - were thought to have been destined for organised gangs in Bolton, south Manchester, West Yorkshire and Nottingham.
