Brown Thomas store puts €2.5m rare yellow diamond necklace on display

It might seem like a taunt given the times we live in, but a necklace worth €2

It might seem like a taunt given the times we live in, but a necklace worth €2.5 million has gone on display in Dublin department store Brown Thomas. The Tiffany yellow diamonds necklace was first worn by Kate Winslet at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Diamonds are valuable because they are rare, but yellow diamonds are rarer still. There are 10,000 diamonds found for every yellow diamond.

There are three yellow diamonds in the art-deco inspired Tiffany necklace. The main stone is 13.9 carat and the other two stones are 6.0 carat stones with 642 white diamonds, each cut and hand set.

“To have three yellow diamonds like this up to Tiffany’s standards of saturation of colour is very rare,” Melissa Jones store manager at Tiffany in Brown Thomas said. “That is the where the most of the value is.”
