A FISHING buoy belonging to a lobster boat that featured on a TV show has been found off Arranmore Island, having crossed the Atlantic from George’s Bank off the coast of New England in the north-east of the US.

Fishermen aboard the MV Cadnolobster boat discovered the buoy adrift in the sea four miles west of Arranmore lighthouse on Wednesday.

The buoy, which belonged to the Timothy Michaellobster boat, featured in the Discovery Channel shows Lobstermen: Jeopardy at Seaand Lobster Wars, would have travelled more than 1,000 miles to reach Ireland from George's Bank, according to Ger Breslin of Inis Míl Seafoods. George's Bank is a submerged mountain range some 150 miles off the coast of New England. Mr Breslin said it was the second buoy from a boat on the TV series to wash up off Arranmore recently. "The buoy was probably in the water a long time as there was growth of mussels and barnacles," he said.
