BANGKOK - Burma's military government described as "ridiculous" yesterday a scathing report from Amnesty International which said human rights violations in the country last year reached their highest level of the decade.

Western diplomats said the Amnesty report could be a further obstacle to closer relations between the seven members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union.
