The driver of a bus involved in a crash in Waterford which resulted in 18 people being taken to hospital two years ago appeared in court yesterday on a charge of careless driving
James Fowler was summonsed to appear at a special sitting of Waterford District Court in connection with the incident on the quay in Waterford on October 6th, 2004.
The bus crashed into a lamppost near the Clock Tower on the quay shortly after 11am on the morning in question.
The injured were taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where they were treated for shock and minor injuries.
Graham Farrell, defending, requested an adjournment as his client "would be prejudiced" were the hearing to go ahead yesterday, due to a lack of technical evidence.
Mr Farrell said his client's defence would be that a "power surge occurred" in the Bus Éireann vehicle when it crashed.
Judge Leo Malone ordered that CIÉ furnish the relevant information requested by the defending counsel.
Judge Malone adjourned the trial for mention to October 13th next.
