A man who was driving illegally in a restricted bus lane when he was knocked off his motorcycle has been awarded almost £10,000 damages for injuries against a motorist who cut across him.

Judge Michael O'Shea said that while the car driver had been driving in the proper traffic lane along Northumberland Road, Dublin, on October 1999, with the bus lane on her immediate left, she was 70 per cent responsible for the accident as she turned left into an entrance.

He said Mr Tuthill, of Turret Road, Palmerstown, Dublin, was 30 per cent responsible because of his speed and illegal presence in the bus lane and reduced to £9,800, a £14,000 damages award for whiplash injuries.
