The number of bus passengers on the Stillorgan route in morning rush hour has gone up by 100 per cent since the Quality Bus Corridor was introduced, according to provisional figures from Dublin Bus.

The number of passengers using the bus in the evening rush hour has increased by 90 per cent, while the overall number of passengers on the route throughout the day has risen by 53 per cent.

Some 60 per cent of the new passengers formerly travelled to work by car, while others have transferred from other bus routes, the figures show.

The times of the bus journey has also been cut in half, with a trip from White's Cross to St Stephen's Green, which used to be 50 minutes, now taking 25 minutes. Full figures on the impact of the Stillorgan QBC introduced last August, will be presented next Wednesday by the Dublin Transportation Office.
