Glasgow - A Scottish butcher, Mr John Barr, faces charges in connection with an E.coli outbreak last year, the Crown Office confirmed yesterday. Mr Barr is accused of culpable and reckless conduct arising from the alleged supply of cooked meat from his shop in Caledonian Road, Wishaw, Lanarkshire. Twenty people died in the outbreak, which began with a church Christmas party.

The Crown Office said Mr Barr would be tried by a sheriff and jury at Hamilton Sheriff Court in Lanarkshire. A preliminary hearing is expected on October 7th.
