Cadbury Ireland has recalled two of its products after traces of salmonella were found in the manufacturing process.

Just under 20,000 large 250-gram Dairy Milk Turkish and Caramel chocolate bars - which are made in the United Kingdom and sold in the Republic of Ireland - have been recalled as a precautionary measure.

The company said it had identified the source of the problem in the UK, rectified it and was taking steps to ensure these products are no longer available for sale.

A spokeswoman told ireland.comthat a routine inspection had uncovered minute traces of salmonella but that the risk posed to humans was minimal.

She said the quantity only represented less that half a per cent of its overall sales of 250-gram bars.

Cadbury Ireland also issued a recall to customers to return any of the following products, which are not currently on sale in the Republic of Ireland but may have been purchased or received, from Northern Ireland or the UK - 1kg Cadbury Dairy Milk, 75g Cadbury Dairy Milk, 250g Cadbury Dairy Milk Mint, 105g Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons Egg, and Cadbury Dairy Milk Freddo - price marked 10p sterling.
